It feels like it grew organically, with features being added gradually without a lot of high-level structural design thought. A system with a smaller number of much more generalized nodes would be easier to learn and more flexible. For example, there's no simple if/branch node right now, but there's a bunch of specialized nodes that will branch on specific conditions.
